I say
-
Having received a MFA and also taught art and humanities at the University of Minn. USA until 1982, I left to explore the art scene in metropolitan Miami as a dance instructor. A year later, I ended up actively experiencing New York and its art world for the next eight years, including getting married and opening my own art gallery named "Edification" in Manhattan. My wife and I decided to join the exodus out of Manhattan to raise a family in the woods. For twenty years I have chosen to live and work as a recluse in the woods, but with frequent international traveling, especially to my birth place China, to explore and develop my art away from the hyperactivity of the Contemporary Art scene.
I am convinced in order to find the truth of my work, I must root myself in tradition, the tradition of creativity and innovation. I work to make objects of personal significance and the new; not in the manner to repeat existing or popular styles, but to live and experience art afresh as a way of life in style; the style of seeking the truth and responsible freedom; aiming to transcend all artificial barriers such as social and political separations in humanity through art. My art is my microcosmic contribution to the macrocosm.
